Ōpunakē Beach

Ōpunakē Beach is one of the safest swimming beaches in New Zealand offering a great holiday spot for families. It is patrolled by surf life savers throughout the summer months. It offers great fishing spots and has a very popular motor camp which is busy throughout the summer holidays. There is a children's playground and paddling pool for the little ones, coin operated gas BBQs and picnic tables beside the surf life saving building for everyone to use.
The beach has two massive headlands which provide shelter and protection from winter storms.
Mt Taranaki

Ōpunakē Mural Trail consists of 23 murals depicting historical images and contemporary work throughout the town.

Baths

Ōpunakē Community Heated Baths Society is for use by everyone in the Opunake and Coastal Taranaki area.
Middleton Bay

Middleton Bay is the home of the Ōpunakē Boat and Underwater Club
Launch your boat from the boat ramp and go deep sea fishing and other water sports, drive down Heaphy Road past Sinclairs Event Centre to Middleton Bay. Fish from the jetty or sand. Suitable for walking the dog, family picnics and water recreation. This beach has no surf life saving patrol. There is a fee to use the tractor to launch your boat. Ōpunakē Lake

The Ōpunakē Lake is situated above Ōpunakē Beach and beside the Ōpunakē Cottage Rest Home on Layard Street. This lake is part of the Ōpunakē Loop Trail.
Things to look out for on the walk is the bird life on the lake, the Waiaua bridge weir, the mosaic sofa, the historical grave site of Mary Doby, and the swimming spot beside the Waiaua river.
The Lake, which was man made, was a hydo lake, with the tail outlet at the Ōpunakē beach. The lake no long produces electricity.

Actionaki offers: Paintball, Clay Bird Shooting, Archery, Golf, Team Building, Rifle Shooting, Fishing.
Cape Egmont Lighthouse & Gallery
This replica lighthouse is down Bayly Road at the Cape Egmont Boat Club. The original lighthouse is still situated down the Cape Road in Pungarehu.
Ōpunakē Loop Trail

Distance: 7km
Time to complete: 3-4 hrs
Grade: easy to moderate
The Ōpunakē Loop walkway is the longest of the formal South Taranaki walks and takes you beside the Ōpunakē Lake, across the clifftops, through the secret garden, providing coastal vistas before offering rural views. Suitable for low to medium fitness walkers and has variable terrain of grass, footpaths and gravel tracks and is hilly in places. You can start at any point on the track. Cyclists can expect a ride at a 2 – 3 grade.
